LAKE Macquarie will play host to one of the State's largest gatherings of traditional boats this weekend.
Heritage Afloat will be held at the Toronto foreshore today and tomorrow.
A spokesman for Toronto Chamber of Commerce, Mr Peter Clough, said this year's program was the most exciting staged.
The national event has been running for three years and will include a selection of heritage and classic boat displays and races.
A sailpast and blessing of the fleet will take place.
Novelty events include the `quick and dirty' boat-building competition and raft race.
Vessels on display will range from putt-putts to timber yachts and steamboats.
The two-day festival is sponsored by Lake Macquarie Tourism, NBN Television, Northpower and Toronto Chamber of Commerce.
